March 2018 Newsletter
Dear Hunters Glen Families,
Happy March - yes, that is correct, it is March already! The year is clearly more than half over and we are continuing to be proud of the hard work our students have put in this school year. As you talk with your child about their school day, ask them if they have talked about the ‘Big Idea’ or other Depth & Complexity Cards that teachers have increased usage of in the classroom to help students make connections in the different subjects. Depth & Complexity is a strategy that was originally created to help push gifted students and to extend their thinking. Here at HGE, we recognized that all students should be ‘pushed’ and are incorporating them into our regular instruction.
March also signals the beginning of state testing for Grades 3, 4, and 5. Attached within this newsletter is a calendar with the anticipated dates and times that our students will be taking the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS). We are still waiting for the district to approve our testing dates/times but wanted to share them with you now so you can plan to have any appointments that your child may need to attend NOT be on a testing day. While students can make up a test at a later date, it is best for the student to take the test with their class on the scheduled day. As of now, the testing dates are as follows:
3rd Grade: April 4th, 5th, and 6th (ELA) & April 13th, 16th, and 17th (Math)
4th Grade: March 20th, 22nd, and 23rd (Math) & April 9th, 10th, and 11th (ELA)
5th Grade: March 21st, 22nd, and 23rd (ELA), April 5th, 6th, and 9th (Math) & April 18th, 19th, and 20th (Science)
Please try to avoid any appointments on the days listed above (times are on the calendar), to have your child get a good night’s sleep before the test day, and to eat a healthy breakfast. We are simply asking your child to take their time and do their best on each of these tests.
Spring Break is also approaching at the end of this month. Spring Break is March 26th-30th, the last week in March. Students also have no school on April 2nd, with school resuming as normal on April 3rd. We hope all families have an enjoyable and restful break. Let’s hope for good weather here or wherever you may be travelling.
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or points of clarification, please never hesitate to call the school. Thank you for your support!
