October 2018 Newsletter
Dear Hunters Glen Families,
Happy Fall! Students are now successfully in the routine of school and great things have been happening at Hunters Glen! Parent-Teacher Conferences will be here very soon; on Thursday, October 11th. Please contact your child’s teacher if you do not have a scheduled time yet. These are very important so you can be updated on the progress, successes, and challenges of your child and be able to be a partner in education with your child’s teacher. Additionally, teachers will be passing out additional information on Words Their Way, our new word study program that kids are participating in.
Thank you to those who were able to support the PTO Fundraiser through buying items or donating. We know, understand, and appreciate that not all families can support a fundraiser, but wanted to thank those who are able to and thank everyone for considering. The PTO is in the process of getting approval and information on adding a shade structure to our playground! Friday, October 19th is our PTO Dance this school year. Be on the look-out for more information about this event as it approaches.
Thank you to all those families who have understood and listened to our updated arrival and dismissal procedures this year. From my perspective, it feels that dismissal is running smoother than last year and I know the students are safer! Please remind your students to use the crosswalks and sidewalks at and around the building for their and everyone’s safety. Also, please remember that if you do park in our lot, either by arriving before the gates close or if you have a handicap sticker, to please park in a parking spot, as all curbs are reserved for buses and daycare vans. Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students safe!
At Hunters Glen, we follow Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) to reward students for showing positive behaviors in class. Soon, there will be a tab on our website (under the Learning Resources tab) to explain in more detail what PBIS is and is not. All classroom teachers also provide instruction using Second Step, a Social Emotional Learning Program. There is lots of research showing the benefits of both PBIS and Second Step that will also soon be provided on our website.
We are always open to feedback and suggestions to improve Hunters Glen Elementary. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, clarifications, or concerns.
