Hello HGE Families!

We started so early in August, and we are already in our 4th week of school!  These news updates will also be available on our school website a day or two after we send them out under the ‘News’ section for future reference.  A reminder that there is no school next Monday or Tuesday, September 7th & 8th, for Labor Day and a teacher professional development day.  School resumes as normal on Wednesday, September 9th.

Traffic Reminders

Thank you for not parking on our curbs in the parking lot for arrival and dismissal - this keeps us within fire code and allows our school buses and daycare vans to have space to park!

We do want to alert you to some important traffic reminders around Hunters Glen.

• The school zone speed limit is 20 MPH.  Please adhere to that maximum speed.
• DO NOT drop off in the middle of the street or at the crosswalks.  This is not safe, and it stops traffic flow.
• PLEASE - ensure you are stopping when our staff is in the street as crossing guards.  TOO MANY people have gone through the crosswalk when students, families, and staff are in them.
• Please remember that Thornton PD is in attendance certain days for arrival and dismissal and will ticket anyone not following the above traffic laws or for any other traffic violation.

Toys/Extra Items

We have seen an influx of toys, trinkets, cards (Pokemon, etc), hand sanitizer, and other items in the possession of students during the school day.  Please remember - it is district policy that these items remain home.  Essentially, if it isn’t a school supply that the teacher has asked for, it should stay home.  Student consequences could include: loss of item for the day, a parent/guardian may be required to pick up the item, or the item is held until the last day of school (repeated offense).  

Parent Teacher Conferences

While more information will be shared later this month, we wanted to notify families of our upcoming October Parent/Teacher Conferences.  They are scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th, and Thursday, October 8th, from 3:00-7:00 each night.  We ask that all families sign up for one slot per child.  If you have a split household, we ask that you coordinate with each other and select one time that works for both households.  We do not have enough available slots to have more than one conference per child.  Our special education team will be meeting with families outside the conference time of the classroom teacher, so please ensure you sign up for a time slot with your child’s classroom teacher and special education team, if that applies.

The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during conferences for you to shop for books for your child!

Our first PTO meeting of the year is today - Tuesday, September 1st!  Please check out our PTO website for information on meeting dates (coming soon), contact information, and fundraising opportunities.  

Did you know that all fundraisers on the website cost our families nothing!  We collect Longmont Dairy MilkCaps and benefit from any Box Tops scanned!  Additionally, if you purchase from American Furniture Warehouse and tell them you are from Hunters Glen, we receive a percentage of your sale!  You can also link your King Soopers Card to HGE, and we receive a percentage of your sales!  Check out the PTO website for directions on how to sign up or contribute using these NO-COST fundraisers!

Our wonderful PTO is once again partnering with Boosterthon to sponsor our Fun Run!  This is the one large fundraiser for our PTO that asks for direct support.  Students will watch a video in class on September 18th to kick off this fundraiser, with the Fun Run scheduled for September 29th!  More information will be coming home soon.  Students can earn prizes, and the school can receive additional funds, even if you just register and are unable to donate.  Please register your child when the information comes home, and please donate to our wonderful PTO if you can!

Last school year, the funds from this fundraiser allowed our PTO to:

• Helped reduce Field Trip Costs for All Families
• Supplied books for our Birthday Book Vending Machine
• Supported teachers with additional resources for the classroom!
